Hester Maria Elphinstone Keith papers, 1780-1910 (inclusive), 1780-1821 (bulk).

The bulk of this collection consists of letters to Lady Keith from her friend Fanny Burney, her husband Lord Keith, and her mother Hester Lynch Piozzi. Lord Keith's letters from 1812 to 1815 often discuss the naval aspects of the Napoleonic Wars. Twelve of Mrs. Piozzi's letters from 1784 to 1786 were written during a tour of Italy, and from 1794 to 1814 were generally written from he home in Wales. The collection also includes one letter to Samuel Johnson, and several letters discussing him. The remainder of the collection is somewhat miscellaneous in nature, but relates largely to various controversies over the Henry Thrale estate.
